IF A MINOR: Volunteers under the age of 16 are required to be supervised at all times by a parent or guardian.
WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING VOLUNTEER POSITIONS WOULD YOU BE INTERESTED IN: (Please check all that apply)
WEEKLY ADOPTION EVENTS - From working at our weekly adoption events in Selden, Patchogue or Riverhead, to leading them! We always need help with setting up, getting animals off transport, help caring for dogs/cats during the event, speaking with potential adopters, walking dogs during the event, assisting in hosting the event and breaking down and cleaning up from the events.
FOSTERING: We cannot survive without our FOSTERS! We supply the animal, crate, food, toys as well as cover any medical costs, you simply provide the home, love and structure that a new animal transitioning from the shelter life needs! We need fosters to care for the animals from arrival through adoption, but if you can’t commit for more than a week or 2, we also need fosters for an overnight stay or a quick vacation coverage. Ask us for a FOSTER APPLICATION if this is something you are interested in!
OFF SITE FUNDRAISING EVENTS:Events always take a lot of coordination and helping hands to pull it off. For special events we need people on our Committees to help with the “idea stage”, to setting up, sitting at the door collecting tickets, to breaking down. We have an annual golf outing, comedy club and fishing trip fundraiser as well as multiple fundraising events throughout the year!
DONATION FUNDRAISING: All homeless animals need money for their medical care and sometimes a few incidentals such as toys, crates, collars, leashes, beds, professional transport, etc. Our fundraising staff of volunteers go out and collect donations from local stores and corporations to help with Sponsorship and raffle basket donations at fundraising events. If you are a go-getter and can help raise donations as well as spread the word about homeless animals, this is where we need you!
ADMINISTRATIVE - Organizing volunteer efforts, weekly recruiting for foster families and volunteers, adoption event planning, replying to email inquiries, answering phone calls, updating websites, updating our database, uploading animal profiles, etc. If you want to be part of the “behind the scenes”, we have a place for you!
PHOTOGRAPHERS: Do you love photography? Are you creative and just love taking photos? Then we need you! So many times we hear how that “one photo” drew an adopter to come adopt their dog or cat! We need photographers at our weekly events to photograph the dogs and cats so we can post and share them to all our social media sites!
SOCIAL MEDIA NETWORKING:Are you a social wiz with Facebook, Twitter or Instagram?! These are the quickest and cheapest ways we use to get the word out about our rescue—by posting pictures, descriptions, messages and flyers on social media and asking people to tag and share! If you love social media, then this is a great way to help!
CAT CARE- PATCHOGUE PETCO: Provide instore care for our cats at Petco-Patchogue. Volunteers sign up to cover morning or afternoon shifts to provide food/water, clean-up and care of the animals in residence. It is a nice way to help out during the week and enjoy quality time with some of our adoptables without the responsibility of fostering.
ANIMAL ADVOCATE: Homeless Animals need to have someone who will champion their cause. Advocates do things such as contact breed specific rescues, sanctuaries, newspapers, radio stations, create flyers to share, etc. to help get the message out that there is a wonderful, but homeless, animal available for adoption.
COLLECTIONS (STORAGE): We rely on generous donations of blankets, towels, newspapers, toys, crates, food, beds, bowls, etc. each week and we need to have places to store items that we collect and people who are willing to help get the items to our foster families who need them.
TRANSPORTER - Sometimes, our foster families can’t get their foster animal to or from adoption events or vet appointments. If you have free time and don’t mind a four-legged, furry passenger, please sign up!
SPONSOR:Homeless animals need people who are interested in them, their needs, and are willing to sponsor the cost of their care until they are adopted. Knowing an animal has been sponsored takes the pressure off of us to be able to go out and save another life!
GRANT WRITER: If you are skilled at Grant Writing, we always have the need for Grant Writers to help us find and apply for Grants to help us save more lives!
